‘Peter Pan Live!’ Ratings Down 47% From ‘Sound Of Music’ Last Year, ‘The Taste’ Debuts Down – Update

2nd UPDATE, 1:50 PM: The stage is all packed away, the final numbers are in andNBC’s Peter Pan Live! saw a small adjustment up while CBS’s NFL inflated primetime saw significant movement downward. The Neil Meron and Craig Zadan produced 3-hour live musical went up a tenth to 2.4/7 among adults 18-49. That’s 47% less than The Sound Of Music Live! drew in final nationals on December 5 last year. As for CBS’ schedule, Two and a Half Men (1.9/6), freshman The McCarthys(1.4/6) and Elementary (1.2/6) all went down sixth tenths. Sitcom Mom (2.0/6) fell 20% from its fast nationals result and 23% from its last original on November 20. The CW’s Reign (0.4/1) went down a tenth from its result of this morning to be even with its last new show two weeks ago.
UPDATE: 9:01 AM: As Peter Pan Live! took a dive from last year’s The Sound Of Music Live! in metered market results, it took even a bit more of a fall in fast nationals. With a 2.3/7 rating among adults 18-49, the Neil Meron and Craig Zadan produced 3-hour spectacle was down 50% from the Carrie Underwood fronted Von Trapp family tale of December 5, 2013, also produced by Meron and Zadan. Seeing drops of 33% and 39% in the demo and overall viewership from its first 30 minutes to its last half hour, the 8 – 11 PM Peter Pan Live! pulled in a total audience of 9.13 million. That’s just under half of 18.6 million who watched Sound Of Music Live! last year. Not surprisingly, Peter Pan also declined from last week’s NFL game on Thanksgiving Day. Fast nationals to fast nationals, the live musical was down 60% from the Seahawks vs 49ers game.
Of course, even with those declines, NBC had a rare very good Thursday. Peter Pan Live! gave the network its second most watched non-sports one since the ER finale of April 2 2009 and its second best demo result on the day since the multi-premiere night of September 22, 2001, in fact. Which means the Peacock won the night among the key demo. Right now, CBS won the night among total viewers with 9.53 million watching – though that could change.
